Death

"Why should I fear death? If I am, death is not. If death is, I am not. Why should I fear that which can only exist when I do not?"
-Epicurus

What is death?  What happens when we die, where do we go?  Do you believe in an afterlife?  What if when we die nothing happens, we just die, and no longer exist?  Does that frighten you?  Do you feel like you will be trapped in a coffin underground for eternity?  If we do just cease to exist how could we feel?  We wouldn't feel anything.  Not existing wouldn't be so bad.  It wouldn't be anything, good or bad.  I find that a relief.

I dreamt I died once.  It was from a car crash.  I was in a room trying to move a coat on a rack, exploring my new powers as a ghost.  Then it struck me that I didn't need to worry about the things that bothered me in life.  I came to realize that I was carrying a burden of thousands of thoughts that had concerned me for years.  Tiny burdens piled on burdens, like tiny sacks of sand in a great big bag on my back.  I had forgotten the contents of most of the bags and now I was free to release all of them.  None of them were of any consequence to me in my new form.  I was free.
